Yan Chi Dao “Chang He” (angular style)
长翮 · 雁翅刀
“长翮 Chang He”, which refers to the wings of a large bird, symbolizes the soaring of the bird on the wind and its ascent to the highest levels of the sky. Ancient people often used the metaphor of 长翮 to express their aspirations to transcend the mundane world, fly freely, or convey their great ambitions.
The blade and fittings are 1:1 reproductions of the original antique Ming Dao. The classic "回"-shaped fuller is completely handmade, planed, and ground.
Yan Chi Dao is one of the brothers from Yan Ling Dao, which share similar but flatter blade tip resembling the feathers tip of a wild goose, hence the name "Yan Chi Dao".
It developed from the shape of Hand Dao from the Song dynasty. Both have longer handles and sturdy blade tips. Yan Chi Dao provides for a powerful cut, but the clipped tip also allows for effective thrusts.
