Ottoman Shamshir sword (Commander Grade)
奥斯曼舍施尔弯刀
The shamshir is a weapon that embodies the ethnic characteristics and regional cultural traits of the Caucasus and Arab regions. It holds a significant place in the history of cold weapons development.
After two years of preparation and research, F&I officially launched this independently designed product following repeated discussions, demonstrations and the testing of several prototypes.

* Why did F&I abandon the Shamshir with a large curved blade?
After years of repeated experimentation, a Shamshir with a significantly curved blade was designed long time ago without any technical problems. However, after extensive research by our team, we ultimately abandoned this approach for the following reasons: 1. The more curved the Shamshir blade, the more difficult it becomes to use. The large curvature and weight distribution make it challenging, especially testing the skill of the user. Buyers have varying skill levels with the Shamshir. As a mass-produced product, we aim to accommodate the user experience of the majority of blade enthusiasts and ensure that anyone who acquires it can handle and enjoy it effortlessly. Historically, many military Shamshir blades have not had a high degree of curvature, requiring more advanced handling techniques. The advantages of such curved blades lie in their ability to excel at pulling cuts and changing angles during swings. This requires more agile body movements and stance techniques. Without exceptional technical skills, it would be difficult to utilise. Relatively straight blades can incapacitate opponents more easily and directly, which is why they were used extensively by Arab armies, such as Saladin's war sword. Different blade types have different emphases, resulting in different looks for shamshir swords. 2. Blades with such a pronounced curvature usually require a half-sheath structure with an open mouth, otherwise they would be difficult to sheathe. Part of the back of the blade would be exposed. However, our buyers come from different parts of the world, covering different climates. Open-mouth designs would require frequent maintenance by buyers from relatively humid regions, and the sheath itself could deform or crack due to changes in climate and temperature. Inadditional, This type of open mouth shamshir would easily freeze in cold climates, making it impossible to draw the blade. We must take into account the limitations of the dry climate in the Middle East and Arabic regions in our design. 3. The fittings for a half-sheath structure are relatively longer. In ancient times they were mainly hand made. As a mass-produced product, our fittings are mostly moulded. The probability of deformation increases with the length of a hollow structure during moulding. Given our high standards of detail and quality control, we cannot allow such problems to occur. For each self-designed product, F&I deeply understands its culture and background. Why did the ancients do it this way? Is a direct copy of the original design and structure appropriate? Will it meet the needs of today's customers? Will it create difficulties for customers in use and maintenance? …… A qualified independently designed work is not a simple imitation, but rather the result of research, understanding, bold assumptions and meticulous restoration. A good work requires not only a certain craftsmanship from the creator, but also cultural knowledge and a humanistic spirit. |
