Twin Peaks Liao Dao
双峰辽刀
This project is a 1:1 replica of a Khitan Liao Twin Peaks Dao, which appears to be full of wild power, yet at the same time it is beautiful and delicate.
Twin Peaks Liao Dao is a characteristic practical doulble-handed weapon of the Liao Dynasty, which has not been discovered in other dynasties. Blade tip has a back edge and a slightly upward-curved arc. On blade spine there're unique twin peaks, additional Khitan typical peach-like handguard, and a huge gourd-shaped plate pommel, making the Twin Peaks Liao Dao stand out in its design.
Research suggests that the twin peaks design was mainly to adjust weight distribution. During the frequent wars of the Song, Liao, Xi Xia, and Jin dynasties, weapons always had a sturdy blade and were designed as cutting swords for an era of sophisticated heavy armor. It was often necessary to adjust the center of gravity of the sword handle to a forward position for better cutting, while also preventing the weight from being too concentrated in one place and affecting the balance. Thus, making two protrusions on the back of the blade was a very convenient way.
