锦鸣五型 · 雁翎刀 (方式)
The Yan Ling Dao is a symbol of the transition from the Chinese straight blade Dao to a curved Dao. It is a type of ancient Chinese sword worn at the waist (Yao Dao, 腰刀) that resembles the feathers tip of a wild goose, hence the name "Yan Ling Dao".
Most of the surviving Yan Ling Dao were produced in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. The manufacturing level of the late Ming Yanling Dao was the highest, which may be related to the frequent wars at that time and the increasing reliance on weapons.
The Yan Ling Dao combines the advantages of a straight sword and a curved sword, is usually held with single hand, and weighs around 1.5 kg, making it flexible and suitable for combat.
The blade of the Yanling Dao was usually over 70 cm long, and the thickest part of the back of the blade was about 1 cm. The back 3/4 of the blade were relatively straight, making it suitable for cutting with great force. The blade began to curve and the tip of the blade was raised at the front 1/3 of the blade for practical combat of carv. 15-20 cm of the blade has a double edge till the tip, which is often thickened enhencing the thruting ability for piercing armor.
The solid and elegant Yan Ling Dao "Jing Ming V" refers to an original Ming period high-rank official Dao. This is a practical used Dao shape with relative light and thin blade with two thin fullers, adding with typical Ming, Qing bamboo joint -like blade back 竹节背 and so-called "loach-back" 泥鳅背 Ming type fittings on scabbard.
